DisabilityVoice

Do you have some type of disability, have a family member with a disability, or are you interested in learning about people with disabilities? DisabilityVoice is dedicated to informing, educating, and advocating for people with disabilities. DisabilityVoice started under the premise that people with disabilities have trouble advocating for their needs and getting together to make public change. Legislators make decisions based on numbers of people wanting or needing a change in government policy. Therefore people with disabilities are underrepresented.

DisabilityVoice encourages advocacy for people with disabilities and helps find the information they need for living with a disability. DisabilityVoice is also working hard to provide you with original articles and current articles in the news relating to people with disabilities. As people with disabilities and friends of people with disabilities, we all need to do what we can.

Two of the most important aspects of advocacy are networking and having a forum to express and discuss important issues. DisabilityVoice is now a social networking site with your own profile and friendships’ .  Also the ability to share information to your own profile on other social networks like Facebook or Twitter. If you are a person with a disability or anyone who would like to advocate for people with disabilities, you can create your own group. These groups are similar to those on Facebook with discussion forums and member activity, but with additional customization. A group should promote the cause of people with disabilities socially, politically, or for public change. People with disabilities can also choose to create a group on something they are personally passionate about. This can help show that people with disabilities are just like anyone else with broad interests and diversity.

If you would like to take your advocacy to another level, you can write an article for DisabilityVoice. Before you do the actual writing please email Timothy A Carey at tcarey@DisabilityVoice.us. Also, please let the Tim know of any resources DisabilityVoice is lacking or about articles you may have seen online.

Timothy A Carey has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy so he understands many of the needs of people with disabilities, but he also understands others have useful insights. He received a grant from www.dawninfo.org to create DisabilityVoice through his web development business Golden Fire Computer Productions to help people with disabilities get into advocacy. He is dedicated to helping the cause of people with disabilities in any way he can.
